Work with Us.

Every nonprofit is different. That’s why TAG offers flexible pricing and tailored support to match your organization’s needs, whether you want to build a full grant strategy or simply need extra help along the way.

Our Services

We provide a range of services to strengthen your capacity and increase funding success:

  • Grant research – Identify funders that align with your mission, geography, and goals.
  • Grant strategy – Build a plan that connects your priorities to the right funding opportunities.
  • Grant writing – Develop clear, compelling proposals and supporting documents that tell your story and align with funder priorities.
  • Grant management (post-award) – Track deadlines, reporting, and compliance so nothing slips through the cracks.
  • Coaching and capacity building – Strengthen your internal systems and staff skills for sustainable growth.

Retainer-Based Services

For organizations that need ongoing support, TAG offers retainer agreements. You’ll have a set number of hours each month that can be used for any combination of services—research, writing, editing, coaching, or strategy development.

Retainers start at $1,500 per month for 20 hours and require a three-month commitment. Unused hours roll forward at no additional cost, ensuring you receive full value. Any work beyond the retainer hours is billed at $75 per hour.

Hourly or Project-Based Services

If you need targeted support—such as proposal editing, coaching, or a single application—we offer hourly services at $85 per hour. We’re happy to tailor a project that works for you.

How Long It Takes to Write a Grant

If you are newer to grants, understanding how long it takes to create grant proposals will help you gauge what kind of services you need. The answer to the “how long” question is always “it depends.” Proposals vary in length and complexity, and your ability to participate in draft reviews and other tasks will vary by your workload. There are lots of other factors. Is the proposal a renewal of previous funding or is this a first-time application? Were you invited to submit the proposal? The estimates below include writing, project management, and packaging for first-time applications without an invitation or previous relationship. Your team should also plan to invest about 25% of the time amounts listed for planning, budgeting, and providing documentation.

  • Short Letters of Inquiry (LOIs): 6–8 hours
  • Small local foundation proposals (under $5,000): 8–12 hours
  • Medium foundation proposals ($5,000–$25,000): 15–25 hours
  • Large foundation proposals ($25,000–$50,000): 30–50 hours
  • Major or national foundation proposals: 60–80 hours
  • State or federal pass-through grants (such as HUD ESG): 40–60 hours
  • Federal single-year grants: 50–70 hours
  • Large or multi-year federal grants: 70–100+ hours

Understanding these timeframes is only part of the picture. The next step is deciding when that investment makes sense.

Choosing the Right Level of Support

You pay TAG by the hour, which means this is an investment. You can expect straight talk from us and, frankly, not every grant is worth the cost, and not every organization is ready for every opportunity. For example, a small $5,000 grant might cost about $900 in TAG professional time. That may not make financial sense unless it positions you for larger opportunities later. Because every organization’s situation is different, we start with clarity—understanding where you are and what level of support will give you the best return. We offer several packages:

  • Grant readiness and strategy – We assess your systems, identify strong funding opportunities, and build a roadmap aligned with your goals.
  • Full grant partnership – Ideal for organizations ready to pursue multiple competitive grants with a clear strategy in place.
  • Editing and coaching – Best for smaller awards or teams developing internal grant-writing skills with professional guidance.

TAG helps you make confident, well-informed choices about where to invest your time and resources.

Why This Matters

Grant writing should never be about chasing dollars. It should always be about building long-term sustainability. We believe in transparency and ethical practice, which means we will tell you when a grant may not be a good return on investment.

Our work centers on trust, collaboration, and measurable results. You’ll gain a clearer funding strategy, stronger systems, and peace of mind knowing your efforts are focused where they matter most.

Next Step: Tell Us About Yourself

Not sure where to begin? Our brief survey helps us understand your current needs and capacity, which will help us determine which level of support will bring the most value. Once you complete it, we will schedule a short consultation to review your results and recommend next steps.
